Comprehensive Sex Education

As a woman, mother, and author, I’ve worked to educate myself about sex.

Sex is a loaded word that can refer to many things: gender, biology, the act of procreation, however, all of these things are neither negative or positive, they just are.

There are studies that show that CSE leads to fewer unplanned pregnancies, fewer sexually transmitted diseases, higher rates of gender equality, less physical violence, and higher satisfaction with one’s sex life. These all sound like good things to me!

If you agree, here are three resources that I recommend to help give you the “comprehensive sex education”, or CSE, that is considered a human right in some countries and which can use improving in ours.

  1. NON-FICTION Emily Nagoski “Come as You Are: The Surprising New Science that Will Transform Your Sex Lifehttps://amzn.to/31tO6nc : This non-fiction book is the sex-ed class we all needed and deserved. I can’t believe how much I learned about the female body, even though I’ve lived in one my whole life. Also includes information on how to heal oneself from sexual trauma.
  2. NON-FICTION Bonnie J. Rough, “Beyond Birds and Bees: Bringing Home a New Message to Our Kids About Sex, Love, and Equality” https://amzn.to/2KpXba6: This non-fiction book examines sex ed in America with sex ed in Holland and offers compelling thoughts on how American parents can advocate for CSE in their schools (and even places of worship!) with fantastic resources.
  3. FICTION Red Phoenix “Brie’s Submission” https://amzn.to/2WBhdWA: Red Phoenix has lived the BDSM lifestyle for decades. This book follows the life/training of a young woman curious about the BDSM “lifestyle.” It is very “kinky” but also eye opening. It is not violent and if you read it, you will learn about how important consent and mutual enjoyment are for BDSM practitioners.
